COALITION AGAINST TERRORISM UPDATE
The US Department of Defense has confirmed the deaths in the past 24 hours, of a number of US service personnel in Eastern Afghanistan.

Australian Special Forces Task Group soldiers are involved in Operation Anaconda, a ground operation involving some 2000 US, Afghan and Coalition forces.

Operation Anaconda commenced late last week and is ongoing.

Senator Hill confirms there have been no Australian casualties as a result of this operation.

"Australia's deepest sympathies and thoughts are with the American people at this difficult time. Our condolences are with the families of those people killed and wounded," Senator Hill said.

"Incidents such as this tragic event only serve to reinforce Australia's strong commitment to the coalition against terrorism and our appreciation of American leadership. Our soldiers are fighting side by side in this dangerous and difficult environment and events such as those over the past 24 hours underline the task to which they are committed."

At the conclusion of Operation Anaconda more information about Australia's involvement will be provided.
