Dear Mr O'Neill
We have just processed the emails we have received over the last fortnight,
and I feel compelled to reply to yours and provide you with some explanation
of the recent vote in the Senate.
We were forced to a premature vote due to political grand-standing by the
Democrats, One Nation and the Greens, who will never have to frame or
deliver a Federal Budget.
We could not commit to this proposal after such a short consideration
without reference to the Treasurer and the Budget. This legislation is
something that, should this Government be re-elected, will be considered in
next year's Budget, and not as a short-term policy stunt in the Senate.
