Introduction - Peter Hulsing.
Peter Hulsing sent this today, as promised... Hi Marilyn, Sorry I took so long to get back to you..was called away. I enclose personal bits and pieces. Thanks for your kind summary following our interview although I am somehat disappointed I got ambushed on the way with part of my comments taken out of context. I did not refer to TPI sufferers when I talked about some guys abushing the system. I know them and they know it. My genuine concern is for those who are genuine and need all our help. "I am not full of shit" and yes I have a lot to learn, show me anyone who does not. the difference is I am willing to!! Introduction to Peter Hulsing (Minister Dana Vale MP) Born in the City of Deft in Holland in 1942, Peter’s family moved to Dutch - Indonesia after WW2 to join his father who had been interned in a Japanese Prison Camp. Together with his family he migrated to Australia in 1960, aged 18. He joined the Army in 1962 and was allocated to the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps. Peter’s first tour of duty in Viet Nam was in 1966-67 with the 1 st Civil Affairs Unit, which operated in the Phuoc Tuy province. During this time, Peter assisted in the establishment of a civilian medical system and operated numerous MEDCAPS throughout the Province. After a number of postings in Australia (notably the School of Army Health), Peter returned to Viet Nam with the Team in 1971 and worked with the MATTs, initially from Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy province. When the Aussies pulled out of Nui Dat at the end of 1971, the Team moved to newly built quarters at Van Kiep, Baria, where Peter worked as an instructor to the ARVN Training Centre. On his return to Australia in 1972, Peter was commissioned and immediately spent several years in PNG during their independence phase. On return he did the obligatory QM and CMF postings before continuing in his chosen field of training. He retired as a Major (Training Development Officer - Medical Corps) in 1986. Peter resigned his commission in 1986, and worked for some time as a Field Officer for the Liberal Party in the lower half of NSW before accepting a position with a Construction Company building a retirement village in Forster. At the completion of the village, the Hulsing family moved to Maitland (Lorn), where Peter worked with a Home Construction Company for a number of years. When the Liberals won the local Federal seat of Paterson in 1996, Peter resumed his "political" career and became the Office Manager/Chief of Staff for the new Federal Member, until the seat was lost at the next election. Just prior to joining Minister Vale’s office he was the Office manager/Chief of Staff for Senator John Tierney, who is Newcastle based. Peter is married to Rosalie Denise and has a teenage daughter, Gemma 15. He is interested in physical fitness (body-building) and lists his hobbies as reading, cooking and drinking good red wine. |
