Pauline Hanson.

Dear Pauline,

I would be pleased to receive a copy of your current Veterans' Policy for inclusion on the TPI websites and Web Forums and email lists.

As you may appreciate the majority of long standing problems that are of concern to the Veteran Community have not been addressed in the Policy of either the Liberal or Labor Parties.

Your Senator Len Harris presented an amendment to the Senate during the recent TPI Canberra Rally which addressed the main concerns of the Veteran Community at this time. However as you would be aware this amendment was not successful.

As a member of the TPI Canberra Rally Committee and as a manager and an administrator of the TPI Web Forums I would like to pass on our appreciation to Senator Len Harris for his efforts and assistance to those of our members that were able to attend the TPI Canberra Rally at Canberra over the period 17th to 20th September last.

Since the announcement of the Labor Party policy yesterday which to say the least was another great disappointment to our members and supporters I have been asked by a number of our Queensland members at a meeting last night and many from the rest of Australia via our websites and email lists to make a representation to you requesting an urgent meeting with you to discuss the matter of your priorities in the Veterans' Issues and the support we may be able to afford you. I wish to discuss with you certain matters that should be addressed to you as leader of your Party.

I have been asked to accentuate the urgency of the matter and as such I will make myself available to meet with you to discuss these issues further at your earliest opportunity. A location in SE Queensland would be suitable as would an evening meeting.

I trust that a suitable time may be arranged in the near future.

I have retyped the One Nation VA policy from the document I was handed by Senator Len Harris - One Nation in Canberra on 19th September 2001. Hope this helps.

One Nation

Veteran Affairs Policy

Preamble:

One Nation believes in honouring and acknowledging those who lose their lives or who are injured while serving their country in the Armed Forces regardless of area of service and without discrimination.

Australian defence service personnel injured or killed in the line of duty anywhere in the world are entitled to the same status as those currently termed "Veteran" under the Veteran Entitlement Act.

One Nation will:

1. Review and simplify the Veterans Entitlement Act and remove all discriminatory elements.

2. Place all activities involving Defence Service repatriation, medical treatment, compensation, defence home loans etc under one department - the Department of Veteran's Affairs.

3. Allow Veterans to choose their own medical practitioners.

4. Revert the claims system so that the onus to disprove claims is back onto the Government and not vice versa where currently Veterans must prove that injuries and ailments are a result of service.

5. Maintain the Veterans pension to 75% of the Male Average Total Weekly Earnings. Currently it is at approximately 46%. This will be achieved Pro rata over three budgets. We will continue to award the Widows/Widowers pension and Disability pensions without applying income/assets tests. The Service pension awarded to veterans at 25% will remain asset tested. The total number of TPI's is 25 247.

6. Review the claims system to facilitate a fairer, speedier and more efficient system.

7. Ensure that all services related to the supply of prosthetics are implemented in accordance with best practice.

8. Retain the Anzac Day legislation which ensures that April 25 each year is the Australia's day of commemoration.

9. Extend the current service pension entitlement by upgrading to TPI status all Veterans 70 years of age or over in receipt of a Disability allowance.

10. Extend Veterans entitlements to Merchant Navy members who served during WW2. Their attrition rates were far greater than service personnel and yet they have never been recognised.

11. Award Veteran status to personnel who took place in Nuclear Testing and subsequent clean up operations. The Australian Service Medal should also be awarded to these servicemen.

Hi R

Thanks very much for typing that out and posting it to the Forum.

As far as I can see the policy covers favourably all the main concerns that seem to be about in the veteran community at this time.

I am sure that given our support we would make a difference to the outcome of many seats both in the Lower House and the Senate. This would then give greater bargaining power to this party in the role they play in any future government.

There are some questions (some from our meeting yesterday) regarding this that I would like to raise with Pauline Hanson. Unlike some politicians I have spoken to I believe that given satisfactory assurances in certain matters and that she means what she says I would have no hesitation in supporting her party in this coming election.

I have written for an appointment and will advise of the outcome.

regards,

E
