Pax Romana

(PAKS ro-MAH-nuh) noun

1. A peace imposed by a powerful state ie, Government, on a weaker or vanquished state or people ie, veterans.

2. An uneasy peace.

[From Latin, literally Roman peace. After the state of peace during the life

of the Roman Empire.]

The idea of pax romana is vividly illustrated in "The Life of Gnaeus Julius

Agricola" by Roman historian Publius Cornelius Tacitus (translated by Alfred

John Church and William Jackson Brodribb) when Galgacusk, a British leader,

says,

"To robbery, slaughter, plunder, they give the lying name of empire; they

make a solitude and call it peace."

OK...Let me paraphrase a little.

Pax Romana, but in days not Roman but deux millenium later, is an attitude now displayed by this Government.

Worse still however, is the inability of many to see the 'robbery, slaughter and plunder' of the veterans, conducted in the name of 'the lying empire'. Or even worse still, to see and ignore, so as to maintain a position that allows some former officers to brush crumbs from the emperor's table towards those who carried the spear. And to further allow this corrupt coalition to expect these warriors to delight in the brushing of the crumbs.

The imposing by the State is therefore now shown against a section of the people.

This section has, in times of yore, fought and died together for the State, but now through the machinations of the State, and the ignorance of some, and the self-ambition of others, has been made to become diverted and splintered.

Therefore, there is peace at the table of State. Nay, there is a laugh now against those who scramble for the crumbs.

And as the memorials are continually designed by the servants of the State to be visited, opened and displayed to the vanquished in their name, the State confirms the seating at the emporer's table, and those with a seat become ever-satisfied with their personal place. They have chosen to ignore their warriors so as not to lose their seat.

And until those who snivel to be at the table die, or are otherwise displaced, those warriors and their wives and children will scramble fragmented for the morsels.

And the State will continue Pax Romana.
